Make sure you are registered for the Medicare Safety Net.

Medicare safety net may help you reduce your healthcare costs.

The Medicare Safety Net is designed to help reduce healthcare costs for patients by providing additional rebates for out-of-pocket expenses. Once you reach a certain threshold in a calendar year, Medicare covers a greater share of your costs, making it more affordable to access the healthcare services you need. This can be especially beneficial for individuals and families with regular medical expenses, allowing you to save on visits, tests, and other services.

Once you hit the Medicare safety net, you receive up to 80% of out-of-pocket costs back. Please note that your appointment will still cost the same up front, but you will get a bigger rebate back from Medicare.

Couples or families need to register.  Singles are automatically registered for the scheme.

To find out more, please visit https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/medicare-safety-nets

Thresholds

2024 Medicare safety net threshold is $2544.30.

2024 Medicare safety net for concession card holders or those eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part A is $811.80
